We lived on the island of Java in the city of Yogyakarta. Or, if you prefer, you can see what kind of weather they are having from a satellite in geosynchronous orbit. We lived about 20 km from Mt. Merapi, one of the world's most active volcanoes. Volcano watchers record its every burp, and we appreciated it. In February and March 2001 Mt. Merapi was working on erupting, but the lava flow was not much In April of 2006 Merapi is active again and the government is trying to get people to evacuate. Yogyakarta, with a population of around 1,500,000, is a center of learning and culture. Duane served at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (Ambassadors of the Word Christian University). He was in the Center for the Study and Promotion of Peace (Pusat Studi dan Pengembangan Perdamaian). Clare Ann was the Program Director (usually known as Country Representative) for Mennonite Central Committee.
